Preparing for BAFA business consulting: turn your question into a clear goal

Business consulting becomes tangible when you can name the decision ahead. On Beratung-Halle, I help existing businesses understand their situation and develop specific recommendations. This preparation helps turn a general wish such as “things need to work better” into a question we can address.
1. Describe a specific situation
Start with one topic: are you attracting unsuitable enquiries? Are responsibilities unclear? Does a recurring process take too much time? Describe an example from your daily work and its consequences. One specific observation is more useful than a long list of general problems.
2. Organise the information you already have
Note your offer, main customer groups and the tasks or people involved. Depending on the question, existing plans, a process overview or summarised business figures may help. You do not need to prepare a lengthy presentation for the first conversation.
3. Define a goal you can assess
An illustrative example: instead of “improve my organisation”, your goal might be “clarify responsibilities and the next steps for handling new customer enquiries”. This is a possible working goal, not a promised consulting result. Together, we assess what is useful and realistic for your situation.
4. Clarify funding and the process in advance
Preparing your question does not replace a funding eligibility assessment. Before commissioning consulting, we clarify the applicable requirements, necessary steps and permitted start date. The aim is to provide understandable recommendations for your situation, with clear priorities and practical next steps. Ask if a recommendation remains unclear: what comes first, who will take responsibility and how will you recognise progress? This helps you apply the results in daily business.
